Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead

A couple of friends and I have been complaining lately of a lack of energy, restless sleep, and love-handles and pooches that seem to be slowly but surely increasing in diameter. Not wanting to give in to a tired, middle-aged existence, we decided to do a one week raw juice cleanse together, inspired by the documentary, Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead.

Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead chronicles the journey of Joe Cross, from a morbidly obese, sedentary 41 year old, taking several types of medication (blood pressure, skin issues etc.) to a fit, lean, juicing advocate who runs daily along Australia’s Bondi Beach. During his life changing journey, he spreads the juicing gospel on a road trip across the US. A must-see documentary!

We gathered together the day before the cleanse and had one last magnificent meal, beautifully prepared by my friend, Chef Peter.

Yum! Fully satiated with delicious, fresh, local cuisine that is to be my last solid food for seven days, I’m ready to Juice!!!

I’ve done a little research and it looks like raw juice cleanses can be really powerful. I’m hoping that some dramatic things will happen this cleanse week and am looking forward to sharing the best smoothie/green juice recipes and experiences.

  1. I just saw that documentatry last week and was re-inspired! I’ve been juicing once a day for the last 8 weeks and eating mostly vegan. Without doing anything else different I have lost 6 lbs. Good for you and your friends for taking the leap and taking care of your bodies!!! Best of luck

  2. Good luck! Juicing is AMAZING and I’m sure you will see results. If you want to lose weight effortlessly and get back energy try incorporating more fresh veg and fruit into your diet and cut out ‘heavy’ foods that take long to digest.
